The case for solar is usually a trenching problem, not an electricity bill

Most solar lighting projects we quote are not driven by the cost of kilowatt-hours. They are driven by the cost of getting a cable to the fixture — a road crossing, a heritage surface, a remote compound, a site where the grid connection quote arrived at several times the cost of the lights. All-in-one solar fittings remove that line item entirely.

Our solar range is DC-powered all-in-one: monocrystalline panel, lithium battery and LED module in one housing, with remote control and dusk-to-dawn automatic operation. Published models span 100W to 3000W on the street side and 20W to 3000W on the flood side, with 10,000–11,000 lm output at around 100 lm/W on the flagship flood model and 125 lm/W on the all-in-one street model. Beam angles are wide — 240° on the street model — because solar installations rarely have the luxury of perfect spacing.

Housing materials are aluminium or ABS depending on model, with IP65 to IP67 sealing and operating ranges quoted from -25°C to 65°C. The garden range uses LiFePO4 batteries and Epistar SMD chips, with dual light-control plus remote operation and panel options from 3W to 30W to suit site conditions.

Typical applications: roads, parking lots, gardens, squares, lawns, patios and walkways, plus off-grid camping and fishing use.

Sizing a solar light correctly — the conversation we want to have first

Solar lighting is where optimistic specifications do the most damage, and it is worth being blunt about why. A datasheet wattage tells you almost nothing about how a solar fitting behaves in month three of a cloudy season. What determines the outcome is the relationship between panel wattage, battery capacity, the site’s insolation and the hours of light actually required.

So when a project comes in, we ask for four numbers before quoting:

1. Latitude or nearest city — determines worst-case daily solar yield
2. Required hours of light per night and whether full output is needed all night
3. Panel mounting constraints — tilt angle and shading, especially tree cover
4. Required autonomy in cloudy days — one, two or three

Answer those and we will size the panel and battery rather than simply recommending the biggest wattage figure in the range. Where a buyer’s own specification calls for a nominal wattage that the battery cannot support at full output for the stated night length, we will say so rather than quietly ship it.
